This is a sumptuous necklace with the chain as an integral part of the design, rather than just the usual pendant hanging from a chain. In fact there is nothing 'usual' about this unique piece. Made in the Edwardian era in 9ct yellow gold, a rich purple amethyst hangs freely in a rub-over millgrain setting from a circular loop studded with eight seed pearls.
Suspended from this are two beautiful pear shaped amethysts in claw settings which hang freely via seed pearl studded pointed oval gold work. This theme is continued with the same shape repeated twice on both sides of the central amethyst, again studded with seed pearls, in order to connect the piece to the fine oval belcher chain. To give an idea of scale, the central amethyst measures approximately 12mm wide and the drop from the top of the circle to the bottom of the pear shaped amethyst is 52mm. he length of the necklace is approximately 370mm (14.5 inches). It fastens with a trigger clasp.
